Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy at the Fe/Au(111) interface studied by Mössbauer, x-ray absorption, and photoemission spectroscopies

چکیده
The origin of the interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) induced in ultrathin Fe layer on Au(111) surface was examined using synchrotron-radiation-based M\"{o}ssbauer spectroscopy (MS), X-ray circular dichroism (XMCD), and angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES). To probe detailed electronic structure orbital hybridization between 3$d$ Au 6$p$ bands, we detected proximity effect, which modulates valence-band Fe, resulting PMA. MS XMCD measurements were used to detect moments, respectively. $In$-$situ$ ARPES also confirms initial growth large spin-orbit coupled Shockley states under modulated vicinity Fermi level. This suggests that PMA Fe/Au(111) interface originates from cooperation effects among spin, moments coupling Au. These findings pave way develop $p$-$d$ with a interaction.

Influence of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy on closure domains studied with x-ray resonant magnetic scattering
FePd thin-film samples with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy ~PMA! have been studied with x-ray resonant magnetic scattering, both at the Fe and at the Pd L3 edges. In these samples the competition between PMA and shape anisotropy leads to the formation of highly ordered striped domain patterns with a magnetization component perpendicular to the film plane. These striped domains give rise to m...
متن کاملUranium oxides investigated by X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopies
X-ray absorption and resonant X-ray emission measurements at the O 1s edge of the uranium oxides UO2, U3O8 and UO3 are presented. The spectral shapes of the O Kα X-ray emission spectra of UO3 exhibit significant excitation energy dependence, from an asymmetric to a symmetric form, which differs from those of UO2 and U3O8. This energy dependence is attributed to a significant difference in the o...
متن کاملCharacterization of chromodulin by X-ray absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies and magnetic susceptibility measurements.
The biologically active form of the essential trace element chromium is believed to be the oligopeptide chromodulin. Chromodulin binds four chromic ions before binding at or near the active site of activating insulin receptor and subsequently potentiating the tyrosine kinase activity of the receptor. Charge balance arguments and preliminary spectroscopic studies suggested that the chromic cente...
متن کاملThe interface of GaP(100) and H2O studied by photoemission and reflection anisotropy spectroscopy
We study the initial interaction of adsorbed H2O with P-rich and Ga-rich GaP(100) surfaces. Atomically well defined surfaces are prepared by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy and transferred contamination-free to ultrahigh vacuum, where water is adsorbed at room temperature. Finally, the surfaces are annealed in vapour phase ambient. During all steps, the impact on the surface properties is mo...
متن کاملMagnetic dichroisms in absorption and photoemission for magnetic characterization in x-ray photoelectron emission microscopy
Magnetic contrast for the operation of a photoelectron emission microscope ~PEEM! with synchrotron radiation is provided by magnetic dichroisms. Besides the most frequently employed magnetic dichroism, magnetic circular dichroism in x-ray absorption spectroscopy, energy filtering of photoemitted electrons allows one to also use magnetic dichroisms in photoelectron emission as complementary cont...
